GRAPHIC DESIGN + BRANDING PORTFOLIO

My Portfolio dedicated to my exploration into design. My focus in design is in graphic Illustration, research into trends and styles, logo creation and brand identity.

NEGRONI WEEK@

I was asked to assist the design company 'Natural Selection' in their Illustrations for a breif set by Rudy's Pizza, a pizzaria chain located in Manchester.

The Illustrations needed to promote Negroni week and feature the branding for Campari, a component to the cocktail.

I created  5 Illustrations for them to submit and this resulted in two of them, the lady and the big hand, to be selected for the merchandise for the promotion.

LIBRARY
CARDS

I have created two sets of library cards targeted towards young children with the goal of encouraging reading.

In a technology forward world with constant stimulation, children are loosing the joy of reading and diving into your imagination.

As an adult, I've fell back in love with reading and enjoy the immersion into a non digital world that I've been missing for so long. As a dyslexic I found it difficult to read and often fall out of love with it due to the energy it takes to finish a chapter, but gamifying the process through the app Good Reads I've found makes it more fun. Setting goals and challenges adds a slight reward for finishing a book, which was never an option growing up in the UK school system.

My creative approach for these was very different to my usual, sketch and plan first approach. I mostly improvised and went straight to creating the designs in Adobe Illustrator. This allowed me to focus completely on shape and colour language to showcase my ideas.

While this is an ongoing project I plan to make physical cards to pitch to local libraries, primary schools and young reading groups.

Personal
Branding

I thought 'hey I wanna go into design but I don't even have my own to show' which was all the motivation I needed to create my own personal branding.

Being my own client and designer was surprisingly hard. What represented me? This would dictate who clients saw me, peers, customers. It had to scream OJ!!!

Personal branding can be ever changing but what I ended with is what felt best for me right now, bright and doodle-y while being versitile.

WITCHES
BREW

Witches Brew is a brand I created to explore creating brand identity and to practice using Adobe Illustrator.

I really enjoy witch-y themes and tea so combining them was the perfect starter in exploring design.

I went through many ideas, sketches and re-dos with the branding, creating backstories behind the business and even creating the final tea box to photograph. The biggest challenge to over come was creating a logo. My first iteration used in mockups was all over the place and too complicated to be recognisable. Learning to strip it down wand simplify the elements really improved the whole look and feel of the brand.

I also learned how weave my illustration style into brand identity with the witch figure, combining vector bases that can be altered across a variety of favours of teas while keeping each one unique with custom Illustrations and colour schemes.

STILL

Brief by
@thebriefdiary

'Still is a zero-waste makeup brand designed for conscious consumers who want beauty without the excess. All products are refillable or recyclable, made with clean ingredients.'

This is a brand that doesn't align with my usual style, clean and natural colours with a simple touch.

I started by exploring ways I could add a bit of own flair with character doodles, shape exploration and how to play with the world 'Still'.

Yoga poses in simple shapes was the initial design idea but didn't feel appropriate since this is a skincare brand, and while natural adjacent it just didn't mesh well.

When taking the designs to Illustrator I played around with the letters and fonts, landing on this chunky, clay-like style. This then led me to making the 'I' in still into a logo figure. Separating the elements to create a head, upper body and lower body. But it still needed a bit of something...

I created the final small logo from the upper body part, adding a heart shaped leaf, conveying the natural and good feel message of the brand, heightened by the earth tones and pop of green.

The brand pattern was then built with the elements of the 'I', creating a block-y, earthy pattern that could be use on backgrounds, inner packaging and accents to compliment the products.

If I was to do this breif again, I would develop the mockups more, cleaning them up and making them more high quality and bringing back in the simplicity reflected in 'Still'
